Halloween Ghosts

Image
If you still didn't make anything for Halloween (like me) and suddenly you get the spirit, than I have something that's really quick to make: little ghosts . You just need two things: marzipan and chocolate eclairs (or chocokisses).

Roll out the marzipan until flat as a sheet (use flour or confectioners sugar as it sticks to the surface), cut a circle out of it and cut out eyes and mouth.

Place the marzipan over the chocokiss and there you are: you have a ghost. So simple.

Sugar Skull Drawing

Image
Embroidered, crocheted, cross stitched, painted, I have them all: Sugar Skulls. Lots of drawings, too, but nothing wall hanging worthy. But this time I combined three things I love: skulls, Hawaii and butterflies, and made one I think is nice enough to hang above my craft table. Not only for the upcoming Dia de los muertos, but the whole year through.

I made the drawing with black permanent marker and pastel pencils.

Painted Skulls

Image
In a dollar store nearby I found these really cheap black sugar skulls and I thought it would look nice to paint them with 3D glitter paint, that I bought in a craft store. But when I started painting the skulls, the paint turned out to be white. Also great, I thougt.

Then came the picturing part. Suddenly the skull I painted first, didn't wear white paint at all anymore. The paint I bought turned out to be a sort of glue (nowhere to be found clearly recognizable on the packaging) and after drying up, only the glitters remained. Could be nice, except that my skulls are black, which is not a great background for glitters that have to stand out.

So, here are the skulls before the glue dried up.

And after.

Crochet Papel Picado Garland

Image
Folks who follow my blog for quite some time now, know there are some themes that come back a lot. Like cats, because we have Ronnie and Dolly, our own cats. And bunnies, because we have our very own Flemish Giant, called Little Hare. Another theme is Vintage Sewing, because I love vintage clothes. Something else you may have seen here a couple of times, are Sugar Skulls. Don't know why, I just love them. And all the other Dia de los Muertos stuff. This week I crocheted a garland based on the Papel Picado Garlands.

Pumpkin Faces

Image
Didn't make anything for Halloween this year yet, so today I bought two pumpkins and drew faces on them. Together with some plants they will make a nice decor on my table in the backyard.

Crochet Sugar Skull Garland

Image
When I gave Google the search command 'crochet sugar skull' I came along a nice and simple pattern for these cute skulls. I started right away and making one took less than half an hour, so I thought I could make a whole garland. A colored edge and a little rose on top made them look a bit more like a sugar skull.

The pattern for the skull I found here, the idea to add a colored edge and a rose I found everywhere around the Internet.

Theme Park De Efteling

Image
This week both my daughter's had a day off from school and last year my husband and I started the tradition to take the day off from work also, so the four of us can go to a theme park. The most beautiful theme park in The Netherlands is De Efteling. We went there last year, but it's a never boring theme park, so this year we went there again.

Sugar Skull Flower Pots

Image
Every now and than I love it to buy some craft supplies and sweets and cookies to do a whole afternoon of making nice things with my daughters of now eight and five years old. Before I get them from school I prepare the kitchen table. Paint, pencils, paper etc ready to use, sweets in bowls, cookies on a plate, lemonade at hand, so we can start right away when we come home.
Today I got terracotta flower pots to paint sugar skulls on. I just love sugar skulls! And with both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos coming soon, I thought today was a good day to make a start.
