Peacock Feathers Mochila

It's a while ago I made a mochila. Since november, when I made the last one for my friend's birthday, I didn't feel like crocheting mochilas anymore. But on Pinterest I saw this beautiful, beautiful Peacock Feathers Pattern and suddenly the feeling was back: I had to make that one!

Made It! #28

~ I love Pinterest and would like to make a recipe of my boards every week. Since I have lots of recipes pinned (that, until now, I just pinned and only that), I hope this will be a way to reduce the amount of pins on my boards ~

Last week I told you about the Poke Cakes I see pop up everywhere in the blog world, so I wanted to try it for myself and used this recipe for it.

The cake was great, so I'm definitely going to move this recipe to the 'Recipes to keep'-board on my Pinterest account. Excellent taste with little effort. Love that!

My youngest daughter really, really loves to cook. She only seven, but likes to choose recipes by herself, do the grocery shopping (I'm only allowed there to carry the bags afterwards) and prepare everything herself. Well, I think she is a bit too young to operate the stove, so a little help from my side is desirable.

She also loves apples. So since she saw these Apple Roses she's asking to make them with her at least twice a week.

Next week we will be on vacation, so let's hope there will be a working oven in the house we rented, because then it will happen, we will make the Apple Roses!

Can't wait!

Tropical Relax Bag for Teachers

Next week is the last week of school before summer holidays finally start, so this week my daughters and I were busy making gifts for their teachers.
The class parent ordered all children to make paper flowers and to write compliments on it for the teachers, so she can put them all together and make a garland of it. We made the Calla Lilies, as showed earlier this week.
But of course my daughters also wanted to give something of their own. I bought paper bags that my daughters could write and draw on and filled them with some relaxing summery stuff.

My daughters drew all sort of tropical things on the bags.

I made tags for the bags with text. It's in Dutch, as you can see, but it says something like 'after putting lots of effort into us this year, hopefully this vacation you can unstress with the things in this bag'. In Dutch this rhymes, haha!
Besides a pineapple stress ball, nail polish, face mask and a mug with straw, we filled the bag with some homemade things. My daughters made Bracelets and I made Ice Cone Key Chains again.

Birthday Card

My oldest daughter will turn ten in just a couple of weeks, but before it's her turn, all her friends will have birthdays first. So today I made a birthday card for her friend.

I found this idea here

Made It! #27

Last week I chose those Pretzels to make, so here they are!

As you can see mine more look like little bread rolls that happen to look a bit like pretzels. They tasted excellent, though. We dipped them in olive oil with a bit of salt and pepper and they were gone in now time. Luckily I put two of them in the freezer, so my daughters could take them to school the next day, for lunch. They stole the show, so they said, so this recipe is to be repeated!

I read about poke cakes all the time lately, so I thought it's about time to make one myself. I thought about a Strawberry Cheesecake version.

Boho Bag with Fringes

Months ago I made this little Boho Bag, I only had to attach the fringes before it was finished. And that's my core problem: I start lots of projects and as the end nears I get bored and want to start something new. Some projects I just never finish.

Actually, that's the reason I started this blog in the first place. I can't show you half finished crocheted projects, or just the batter but not the whole cake, or cut out fabrics but not the clothes, so starting this blog was to force myself to go on until something is completed, because I want to post the things I make twice a week.

But still every once in a while a project is set aside because it takes too much to time to finish it before my own set deadline (no, I put no pressure at all on my own shoulders, that's so not me) and as soon as it's out of sight for a while for some reason I just can't bear it to take it up again to finish it. So I start something new then.

Such was the case with this bag. This week I was looking for a particular color of yarn in my yarn baskets and while digging and delving, this bag came up from the depths. And suddenly it didn't seem such an enormous job anymore to attach some fringes, so here it is.

Bouquet of Compliments

Together with summer the end of the school year is approaching. At the school my daughters attend, it's not only customary to give a present as a class, but also as individuals. My daughter and I have crafted a compliment bouquet today. We made a couple of Calla Lillies (Zantedeschia) and my daughter wrote compliments in the inside of the flowers for all three teachers.

I just saw that the City Gym Shorts that I posted a while ago, was featured by Strawberry Butterscotch!

Thank you, Anna!

Made It! #26

~ I love Pinterest and would like to make a recipe of my boards every week. Since I have lots of recipes pinned (that, until now, I just pinned and only that), I hope this will be a way to reduce the amount of pins on my boards ~

Last week I let you know that I would like to make one of these Avocado Desserts. I chose to make the brownies. It's not totally vegan, because there's eggs in it, but I'm not a vegan anyway, just a vegetarian who wants to lose a pound or four, so I thought it would be worth a try.

Actually the avocado brownies more look than taste like brownies, but they were good anyway. To add more taste I sprinkled a lot of pecans on top.

Instead of sugar the recipe uses honey. Maybe you don't know this (I didn't), but there's more calories in honey than in sugar, but because honey is a bit more sweet, you don't need as much to get the same sweetness. In this recipe I think the amount of calories is almost the same for sugar or honey.

Instead of butter the avocados were used and the fats in avocado are much better (so man says) than the fats in butter. So here's the win.

So, in conclusion: nice to try, the taste was good, but for me it isn't a keeper.

Next time I want to make Pretzels.

Those salt flakes.... Yummie!!

Bunny Basket

Maybe you remember I told you I gave a little crochet workshop for a couple of mothers I sometimes meet at the schoolyard while I'm waiting for my daughters. I gave them two simple projects to choose from, a market bag or a little basket, and I made an example of both. They all chose the bag (which I actually prefered, too), which most of the mothers have finished by now.

I'm not into small crocheted baskets that much, so I embellished it a bit, until it looked like a bunny, and gave it to my youngest daughter.

The Crochet Club, as one of the school mothers named our little get together a couple of weeks ago, when they want to learn how to crochet, was sort of a success. All mothers asked for a continuation and have already chosen what they want to make next time: the Crocheted Lanterns I made a while ago, which they saw hanging from the pergola in my garden. So, in a couple of weeks they will gather at my house again! Great!

Made It! #25

As said last week I would make the Cherry Coconut Smoothie. Instead of frozen cherries, as in the original recipe, I used fresh ones. And as expected it was as good as I thought it would be!

A friend of mine posted these avocado recipes on her FB timeline and just out of curiosity I want to try the brownies. As the taste is just as good as the real deal, than it could be a keeper. Honey instead of sugar and avocado instead of butter. Sounds so healthy! Just wondering what the taste will be like.

Unicorn Pendant

Maybe you remember the Pink Unicorn I crocheted a while ago for my youngest. Well, unicorns are still da bomb in this house. So my next unicorn related assignment was to make a necklace for my youngest.

I found this idea here!

Thank you so much, Susie and Laurie!

Benjamin Bunny was also featured! Love that! Every time I see it, I see the kitchen of my late grandmother with that rabbit hanging beside her little pantry. The Stitchin' Mommy and Fluster Buster featured Benjamin!

Mr Tod Bookmarker

As I told you in my last post, I bought The Complete Tales by Beatrix Potter for my daughters, to put in what we call The Holidays Surprise Bag. In the book there's also a fox, named Mr Tod. Plan is to read the book to them and because I don't want to fold the pages, as I do with my own books to mark where I stopped reading, I made this bookmarker.

I found this idea here.

This week I made the Three Cheese Pesto Spinach Flatbread Pizza, or the Flatbread Pizza, for short. But because my husband only likes Pizza Marguerita, I also made pizzas with just tomatoes and grated cheese. They were so good, that I think this will become a regular weekend dish!

Next thing I'm going to make is the Cherry Coconut Smoothie. All smoothies are good, but the ones with cherries in it are the best!

Benjamin Bunny

Summer holidays are approaching really fast now. Before we take off for a vacation, I always put together a nice bag full of suprises for my daughters, to keep them busy, the hours we aren't making trips to the swimming pool, beach, park, zoo or whatever we will be going to visit while away from home.
One of the things I always put in the bag is a book, either a book they can read themselves, or a book I can read to them. Last week I cleaned out a cabinet in which I keep a bag full of things I got from my grandmother after she died. One of the things in the bag, is something I made for her some years ago, while I was still a teenager: Benjamin Bunny, one of the characters in the book of Peter Rabbit.

Actually I like it more now than I did back than. I remember the cross stitching asked all the patience I had in me, as the stitches were only 1mm and I wanted it to be perfect, because I made it for my grandmother. It was one of the first cross stitch projects I did, but I think it looks nice and neat.

Anyway, that's how I came to the idea to buy The Complete Tales by Beatrix Potter for the Holiday Surprise Bag.

Doily Table Runner

The last couple of weeks I've been busy crocheting different doilies, just to sew them all together to one larger table cover. I saw this idea here and loved it so much, that I wanted to make one, too.

Thank you, Shanice and Sara!
